My first draft took me six months, the longest first draft timetable for me out of any of my completed books. I don't know why it took so long, but it did and there it is.
I am now doing a polish, then I'm planning on sending it out to some Beta's to get some feedback and hopefully get back to revising sometime in August. In the meantime, what should I do next? Write the query? Outline another book? Something smaller?
What do you do to occupy your time while you await feedback?
I'd say write the query and synopsis while you are still in the mindset for this book. Use the query and synopsis forums on AgentQuery Connect and other places to get them honed down and ready to go. Then when you've edited and polished, you'll have everything in order to start the query process.
ReplyDeleteMy m/s has gone through several Betas though I'm only about 1/2 way through it with my online critique group. I am planning to get one more read by an author whose feedback I really respect. I'll continue to modify based on my crit group's feedback.
I have a query and synopsis I'm happy with and I have recently begun the dreadful query process. I decided to go for the brass ring and I queried my top agents first instead of testing my material on an agent from my "B" list. It just didn't seem fair to do that.
What next? I'm doing research for my next book which is fun and exciting. I'm also outlining in my head though I'm pretty much a total pantster.
